Marketing yourself as a model

How to become visible with Instagram, your own website and your contacts, with or without an agency.

The content is general and is no substitute for individual advice. We are still having it reviewed.

Even with an agency, part of your visibility stays in your own hands. Photographers and clients look at your profile before they get in touch, and what they find there shapes their first impression.

Instagram as your portfolio

Treat your profile like a portfolio: pictures that fit your niche, a recognisable line through your feed and a short bio saying who you are and how to reach you. Consistency matters. Artista Photography recommends at least three posts a week, which is why the coaching includes at least 15 pictures and a posting guide with dates for every shoot.

Your own website

A model website brings your pictures, measurements and contact details together at an address you own. Unlike a social media profile, it doesn't depend on what a platform happens to show.

Building contacts

  • Photographers you worked well with: stay in touch and credit them when you share the pictures
  • Brands that fit your niche: write briefly and to the point, with a link to your pictures
  • Organisers of fashion shows and events: prepare looks that suit the event
  • Other models: many recommendations come through colleagues

Don't share private details such as your home address publicly, and only meet new contacts in places where you feel safe.

Self-marketing is step 9 of the programme and your own model website is step 10, in person in the coaching or online in the Academy.
